I feel like there must be a lot of overlap between car people like ourselves and boat people, so come on, Oppo, show us what you got.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

This is my Blackman 23'. It's a beast. 11,000 pounds of offshore fish killing machine. Chevy 350 and Volvo Penta Outdrive for 30 knot cruising. Never has there been a better-designed boat for SoCal fishing. Also, it's orange.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

This is my Hunky Dory 21'. Before C-Dory was C-Dory, they manufactured a few boats under the 'Hunky Dory' name. I have one of those. Flat bottom makes it super fast, but also super scary and uncomfortable in big seas. The Yamaha on the back is worth many times the value of the boat itself. Now with bonus Bronco.

Kinja'd!!!

This is my 21' Robalo. Sorry, couldn't find a better picture. Good boat. Fast, comfy, roomy, and easy to get around. Also pretty bulletproof. Came through Hurricane Odile with nothing but a broken window. Probably time for an upgrade on the Old Merc 225 outboard though.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

This is my Glasspar 18'. It's a 1959 with twin 1983 Johnson 50s. Has minor historical significance, as it served as the first ever search and rescue boat on Lake Tahoe. Can run around all day for about 20 bucks in gas. Wonderful, wonderful machine.

Kinja'd!!!

And finally, La Zapatista. An old ass Valco I picked up for 200 bucks. This goes on top of the Tahoe in the top picture for righteous Baja adventuring.

That's it. Your turn.

Boatless around here save for an antique aluminum rowboat (for which we have an impossibly old Evinrude or Johnson and/or a newer baby outboard), a little fiberglass 16' or so sailboat with 26' or so mast (fairly over-masted), and a plastic canoe. At one point we had a really sweet tri-hull fiberglass 18-footer inboard/outboard that was supposed to get fixed, with a 351W Ford, but it got sold unfinished.

hooray kinja is unbroken again!

This is the only boat I've personally owned, its an 87 Amstar Lazer with 55HP Mercury Mariner outboard.

up until recently the family had a 1997 Centurion Elite V-drive

I used to have a 12' Alumacraft I bought right before I stopped going with my family Up North. Had a 8hp Evinrude on it. Never got to use it, sold it to my cousin.

Not my pic but this is the exact same color combo as our 18.5' Bayliner Capri. Ubiquitous Mercruiser 3.0L four-cylinder's good for 135hp and around 50mph on smooth water and can pull 3 tubes loaded with slightly-drunk college kids at around 40mph without complaint. Good little boat, lotta memories onboard.

I don't own any boats, but I think I'm young enough I can count my family's boats.

Kinja'd!!!

Here's me, my dad and my siblings with our 16' sailboat on my parents' beach. They keep it at a nearby sailing club now since our lake isn't very good for sailing.

This is the only picture of it I could find, but here's my parents' 18' pontoon shrink wrapped for winter.

Kinja'd!!!

And I don't have any pictures of it, but they also have a 12' aluminum fishing boat with a mint 70s Mercury outboard. Much like the one in your post, the motor is worth 2-3x as much as the hull.

What kind of sailboat?

Extra-shallow draft, twin dagger board. The bow and overall hull shape and size is very similar to this Sunfish, but the passenger compartment is bigger toward the back by a bit and the mast is taller. I overestimated the mast earlier, but not by much - maybe 20-22'? It's not quite the full length of the 27' motorhome, but not that far short.

Does it have a sail plan similar to the sunfish, or is it cat rigged? Sounds a lot like the MC scows that are super popular at my boat club:

It's cat-rigged like a Laser.I recognize that MC logo on the sail, but I don't think the hull is a match 100%. It's I guess either a very old MC or an M variant with an MC sail, if that's possible. It presumably *is* 16', since I was going off memory for length.

Dude that Lazer is super badass. Basically the marine equivalent of an Ariel Atom or BAC Mono.

Do you think it could be bigger? I know a bunch of people with the 20' C scow too. Pretty similar to the MC setup. Either way, twin board, shallow draft and a cat rigging sounds like a speed machine. Our boat is a total cruiser (although you can get traps for it!!!)

I've got a couple ancient Evinrudes lying around. I've been meaning for years to try to get them running, but I haven't gotten around to it.

Ours would be fast if we ever took it somewhere at some time for actual wind. I think if you have as much sail as we do and can still get becalmed, the location sucks weasels or the timing does. I just took a look at next week's forecast for there (Lake Hartwell, GA/SC) as an idle check, and it looks like most days the wind won't be over 6 kts if even that high.

its not...slow, per se. but its not fast. I would guess top speed is in the mid 20's low 30's and it struggles to pull anyone other than a kid out of the water. Part of the issue is that i run at at 5000 feet. at sea level with sea level jets and the right prop, I'd bet it would be pretty speedy.

Yeah. That seems way too slow for a boat that small with that much power. My Glasspar does close to 50, and it weighs 3000 pounds and runs 30 year old motors.

Just sold mine, a 2004 Long Bay Boatworks Backwater 1500. Local company, handmade about 45 minutes from me. Great little boat for fishing the creeks and etc here in coastal NC.

Kinja'd!!!

This is my dad's project. A 1972? Simmons Sea Skiff. Another local made boat, legendary in these parts. Boat is solid, just needs some cosmetic work.

Kinja'd!!!

Sorry for the iPotato Pics.

But I've grown up on boats, my own or friends. Being out on the water is my favorite place to be hands down.

Bonus old pic of my truck and boat (cause I need a truck to haul things)
